Appearance: Nakajima Ryuji is a tall, muscular man with sharp features and with white, long, flowing hairs which are tied up at the top.
He wears a sleeveless shihakusho that is open on the front, exposing his chest, and tied it with a white rope belt. He also wears a sleeveless haori, a pair of fingerless black gloves and, over his haori, a Mala (Buddhist rosary) with 22 orange beads big as a fist.


Ryuji was born with an immense amount of reiatsu that allowed him to become captain after only six months after he finish the training at Shinigami Academy. However, his reiatsu, if not properly controlled, could damage the Reishi of Soul Society, which is why the Shinigami Research and Development Institute created the rosary that he wears. It serves to contain the immense power of Ryuji but also to be granted a total control over his reiatsu, at least until it will not be able to do so without any tools.

Personality: Ryuji has a great sense of honor and justice. During his training at the Academy of Shinigami he was sent on a mission together with others to help the former Shinigami Captain of the Fifth Division, disappeared after being sent to Hueco Mundo to investigate the amount of Hollow seriously dangerous. In that mission, his team was crushed by a Vasto Lorde, the same who had attacked the captain, making it impossible to return to Soul Society. The Vasto Lorde was so powerful that the captain was struggling to repel the enemy attack and, when the team arrived at the scene of the battle, the captain tried to inflict a critical hit by taking advantage of the distraction of the enemy, but without success, the Vasto Lorde threw an incredibly powerful Cero on hapless Shinigami killing almost all. Ryuji survived only because he released the shikai of his Zanpakuto quick enough to defend himself from the Cero. (At that time he had not learned to release the Bankai).
When he saw his dead comrades, he was paralyzed so much that he could not move before the enemy, he knew he had to help the captain but the terror chained him to the ground. Seeing that the Shinigami had lost the desire to fight, the Vasto Lorde pointed his finger at him and prepared to throw another Cero of the same power as before, at that moment the Captain attacked him with all his might, with an immense explosion of Reiatsu he was able to cut an arm of the Vasto Lorde, taking advantage of the moment he opened a Garganta and  threw Ryuji inside. With a final smile, the Captain greeted the Shinigami and prepared to continue fighting.
From that day Ryuji trained steadily to become the next Captain of the Fifth Division, he appears usually happy and playful with everyone but inside he still feels a great anger for his futility of that day.

When he should not perform his duties, he goes in isolated areas outside the Seireitei to train and continuously improve his skills. He made ​​a promise to himself, he'll not allow more than comrades die needlessly.

Abilities: Ryuji is one of the strongest Shinigami of the Gotei 13. His innate amount of reiatsu is second only to that of the Captain-Commander. He also possesses immense physical strength forged through years and years of training, despite his muscle mass, he's a Shunpo Master like all the Captains.

He is also a master of swordsmanship, he studied all the existent sword techniques of the real world, he is able to use the katana well as the medieval longsword.

Because of his great offensive power, he is a Kido Master  specializes in the use of barriers and seals (Bakudō). His favourite Bakudō is the Sajo Sabaku, he always use it combinet with his Zanpakuto to inflict a critical hit to his opponent.
